Christian Women's Fellowship Notes

Gretna Christian Church 100th Anniversary

Mailing Address: Post Office Box 644 Gretna, Virginia 24557

My mother saved some of her notes from past meetings of the CWF which she gave to me.

The CWF held it's regular monthly meeting in March, 1965 at the educational building.  There was a dinner for the ladies of the church and afterwards a program on the "World Call".  Everyone there took a part in reading a part from some of "World Call".  Each one of us understood and learned more about what the magazine means to us.  The C.W.F. furnished the dinner which was very good.
Committees were heard and thank you notes were read.
The Bible School material has been received and is being studied.
A book will be placed in the new Gretna Library in honor of Mr. V.A. Motley.
There being no other business the meeting was closed with the CWF benediction.
A special meeting was held in April 1965 to ask the ladies to fix Mary Morrison a special gift for going away.  It was decided to make her a friendship quilt.  It was also decided that all women of the church could give a quilt square if they wanted.

Notes from me.
The World Call Magazine was Disciples of Christ Magazine which was published from 1920 to 1973.  In 1974 to 2002 it was published under the name of The Disciple and after 2002 it was published under the name of Disciple World.  Sadly, the magazine ceased publication in January 2010.  The magazine contained Bible lessons, columns, media reviews, meditations, poetry and short fiction.  It was a magazine for opinions and news.  The World Call was not just for the pastors and ministers, but for the congregation.
For more information on Disciple World see the following link.  At that link you can search for past articles.  http://www.disciplesworldmagazine.com/node/9168
